1，demand的基本意思是「要求做到」「要求得到」。作「要求做到」解時,指強硬地,斷然地要求; 作「要求得到」解時,指要求得到某種應該得到、必須得到或強烈希望得到的東西。demand的語氣較重,含有「理直氣壯的,不容拒絕的,強求的,催促的」等意味。引申可表示「想要知道,查問,盤問,質問,詢問」等意思。
2，demand用作及物動詞,作「要求」解時,其主語通常為人,賓語可以是名詞、代詞、帶to的動詞不定式或that從句; 作「需要」解時,其主語通常為事〔物〕,賓語一般是「時間」「耐心」等抽象名詞; 作「查問」解時,可接名詞、wh-從句,也可引出直接引語。demand用作不及物動詞時常與介詞for連用,表示「要求」。
