《奧巴馬回憶錄》顯而易見，這本書記錄了這位偉人總統的身世，成長與夢想，他是如此受到美國人民的愛戴，他的背景，他的膚色以及他的成就，註定他是位不平凡的偉人，我相信這是一本美國政壇有史以來最好看自傳，它必將震憾我們這代正追逐夢想的年輕人，重新審視我們的人生觀，價值觀，激勵成就我們非凡的夢想。

好在這樣的時間沒有持續很久，他逐漸開始清醒，開始改變自己，他更加的專心於學業，終於在1991年畢業於哈弗大學法學系，取得博士學位在這之後他在美國一家律師事務所工作。
他正式涉足於政壇在1996年時當選伊利諾伊州第十三區的參議員，從此走上政治之路，知道2004年8月在民主黨全國代表大會上發表鏗鏘有力的講演，開始聲名大噪。
2008年8月27日奧巴馬擊敗強敵希拉里，正式獲得民主黨提名總統候選人，他的成功離不開那些動人的演講，所以他被認為最具草根魅力的領袖，他靠民間小額捐款達到2.33億，打破美國歷史記錄。
奧巴馬的快速崛起已成21世紀政壇傳奇，相信這位美國兩百年來首位黑人總統將打開歷史的新章。

《我父親的夢想》譯者王輝耀稱，奧巴馬身上有強烈的「美國夢」，「這讓書有了勵志的效果」；其實，該書流露了不少早年奧巴馬對自我身份的困惑。《我父親的夢想》從父親之死開始寫起，分為三部分，第一部分便是奧巴馬「母親像牛奶，而父親像煤炭」的身世。父親為肯亞留美學生，在奧巴馬兩歲時離他們母子而去，使奧巴馬成為母親家中唯一的「黑人」。第二部分是奧巴馬在芝加哥南區三年的社區經歷，他屢屢受挫但次次堅持，並由此真正開始了對美國社會問題的思索。第三部分是奧巴馬的「尋根之旅」，這發端於他與同父異母妹妹在紐約的見面。就讀哈佛大學法學院之前，奧巴馬帶著「一個西方人，西方卻不是我的家；一個非洲人，非洲卻是陌生的土地」的疑問，遠行肯亞，「坐在兩個墳墓之間哭泣了很久」，最終「知道自己是誰了」，隨後感言「我的問題也是兄弟們的問題」。
