（1）产地与分布
罗姆尼羊产于英格兰的东南部的肯特郡，所以也称为肯特种。该地接近英法海峡，地势与海平面的高度相等，所以非常潮湿，而冬季则又很冷。由于气候湿润，土壤的水分充足，因而夏季牧草茂盛，为良好的放牧地。这种羊的分布尚广，新西兰、阿根廷、澳大利亚、加拿大、美国以及前苏联均饲育有这种羊。
（2）品种特性
罗姆尼羊体质结实，公母羊无角，额颈短，体躯宽深，背部较长，前躯和胸部丰满，后躯发达。被毛呈毛丛—毛辫结构，白色，光泽好，羊毛中等弯曲，匀度好。蹄为黑色，鼻和唇为暗色，耳及四肢下部皮肤有色素斑点和小黑点。罗姆尼羊具有早熟，生长发育快，放牧性强和被毛品质好的特性。

我国饲养的罗姆尼羊，分别引自英国、新西兰和澳大利亚，其生产性能如下：
①英国罗姆尼羊：成年羊体重公羊为80千克，母羊41千克，剪毛量成年公羊7千克，母羊3.5千克，毛长成年公羊13厘米，母羊11.5厘米，毛细50～60支，净毛率45.5%～53%，产羔率104.6%。
②新西兰罗姆尼羊：成年羊体重公羊为77.5千克，母羊43千克，剪毛量成年公羊7.5千克，母羊4千克。毛长成年公羊15厘米，母羊12.5厘米，毛细44～46支，净毛率58%～60%，产羔率106%。
③澳大利亚罗姆尼羊：成年羊体重公羊为87千克，母羊43千克，剪毛量成年公羊7.23千克，母羊3.5千克。毛长成年公羊15.5厘米，母羊13厘米。净毛率60%，产羔率105.5%。
（4）利用情况
